Minister of Economic Affairs, Transport, Employment, Technology and Tourism – The Schleswig-Holstein Government in Germany

Dr. Bernd Buchholz, born in 1961, joined the liberal party FDP in 1981. From 1987 to 1990 he held the office of state chairman of the Young Liberals in Schleswig-Holstein and from 1989 to 2007 he served on the executive board of the FDP in Schleswig-Holstein. Bernd Buchholz was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein State parliament from 1992 to 1996. During this period he acted as the domestic and legal policy spokesperson of the FDP parliamentary group and from 1993 onward as their parliamentary manager as well as deputy chair of the Kiel committee of inquiry investigating the political scandal known as “Schubladenaffäre”.

In 1996 Bernd Buchholz began his career as trainee and later on as assistant to the executive board of the Gruner + Jahr publishing company in Hamburg. In 1998 he was appointed publishing director of the newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost and then in 2000 publishing director of stern magazine and managing director of the entire stern/GEO group. In early 2004 he was appointed member of the executive board in charge of the entire German magazine business and head of Gruner + Jahr Germany. As of January 2009 he served as chief executive officer of Gruner + Jahr AG & Co KG. Beginning in the summer of 2009, Bernd Buchholz also served on the executive board of Bertelsmann AG. He held this office for three years, resigning in August 2012. Bernd Buchholz, who holds a doctorate in law, worked for the Hamburg branch of the Causaconcilio law firm since 2014. As a defense counsel he was primarily active in corporate crime cases.

Bernd Buchholz has been deputy chair of the FDP in Schleswig-Holstein since 2013. As of 28th June 2017 he is Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport, Employment, Technology and Tourism of Land Schleswig-Holstein.
He is married and has two children.
